I think this is wrong. All I wanted to do is finish my degree. Why did I apply last year, and I received financial aid and I had max hours, yet this year I get an SAP email saying I am maxed out in credits. No one said last year anything about it. I have never used financial aid until last year and now my aid has been canceled. This is not fair.

There needs to be a discussion about what kinds of extenuating circumstances are acceptable for an appeal.

Thank you Dave but this is not what my experience has been. I never got any email or notification about Max Hours violations, I only got a hold, 3 days before summer courses began, so I am having to withdraw from all summer courses since the review process takes 5 weeks (I was told). I also was able to submit the SAP without any involvement with my advisor, which I didn't even konw was required.

Nobody told me about this but my department has helped me with it. I only got an email when I had already been maxed out. I am maxed out on hours as I am doing a PHD and did extra credits in the master's program for me to have a heads up with the PHD. This should be explained upfront when we are getting government financial aid.
